Floretta Fern Rhodes, 81, of Sacaton, Arizona, passed away peacefully at her home on January 12, 2025. Born on November 7, 1943, in Bapchule, she was the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth Gonzales.
Floretta was a beloved figure in her community, known for her warm spirit and generous heart. She dedicated much of her life to education as a teacher's aide at Sacaton Elementary School from the 1970s through the mid-1980s. Floretta had a passion for music, frequently participating in the choir and sharing her love for song in the O'otham language throughout the community. Her commitment to youth was evident in her work with children at the local youth home.
A woman with an infectious laugh and a radiant smile, Floretta's hugs were unforgettable, complemented by her wonderful sense of humor. She was an active member of the Travelers Jesus Church, contributing her time and talents to her faith community.
Floretta is survived by her three sons, Richard, Erwin, and Donald; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Rhodes; an infant son; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; her parents; and her siblings, Alva, Lorena, Nadine, Ike, and Fernald.
Floretta's legacy of love, laughter, and service to others will be cherished by all who knew her.
