SACATON - Gary Leonard Cooper, 66, of Sacaton and a former tribal councilman for the Gila River Indian Community, died on March 16, 2019.
Mr. Cooper was born on Aug. 23, 1952, in Sacaton and was a son of Arnold L. Cooper and Lurline M. Lopez. He worked at the Gila River Health Care dialysis center as patient advocate. He loved family dinners, holidays, music and sports and was a fan of the Diamondbacks and Cardinals.
He served as a councilman for Gila River District 3. His true loves were his family, especially his grandchildren, and patients.
Survivors include three sisters, Kathleen Jose, Doreen and Elaine Cooper, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony R. and Adrian A. Cooper, and a niece.
Community visitation beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 22, at the Gila River Governance Center in Sacaton, with a wake following at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Mission in Sacaton. Funeral Mass celebrated at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the mission. Burial in St. Anne Cemetery in Santan.
