Dr. George Stojanovic, 77, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in Casa Grande.
George was born July 2, 1929 in Belgrade, Serbia and graduated medical school in 1957 in Belgrade. In 1963 he married his wife, Mira, in West Germany. After his marriage he did surgical training in Germany. He moved to Montreal, Canada and did more surgical training from 1963 to 1968. In 1968, he moved to Windsor, Canada and lived there until 1992, where he was a practicing surgeon. From 1988 to 1992, he also worked in cancer research in Detroit, MI and in Windsor. In 1992, he moved to Casa Grande, AZ, where he was a surgeon until his retirement in 2005. He was Chief of Surgeons in both Canada and in Casa Grande. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dr. Stojanovic is survived by his wife, Mira, of Maricopa, AZ; two sons, Mihailjo and Julie of Chandler, AZ and Robert and Sandra of Carlsbad, CA; mother-in-law, Vida Marjanovic of Belgrade, Serbia; sister, Svetlana Stojanovic of Belgrade, Serbia; brother-in-law, Ljubica and Regal Marjanovic of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren, Djordje, Natasha, Stefan and Aleksei Stojanovic and two nephews, Sasha and Dejan Marjanovic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mihailjo and Milica Stojanovic and a brother, Dejan Stojanovic.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25 from 6-8:00pm at Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel. Services will be Thursday, April 26, 2007 at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 4436 E. McKinley, Phoenix, AZ. The V. Rev. Janko Trbovic will be officiating. Burial will be at Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The American Heart Association and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church. J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
