Georgette Harriet Chase

SACATON - Georgette Harriet Chase, 79, formerly a Gila River Indian Community tribal judge and council member, died on Dec. 5, 2017, in Chandler.

Ms. Chase was born on Jan. 28, 1938, in Blackwater to Elliot and Eleanor John. Passionate about Gila River politics, she was a District 3 councilwoman for the community and served as chief judge. She also was the first woman to run for Gila River governor. She loved doing what she thought was right for the people of the Gila River Indian Community.

She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and dogs.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Chase of Sacaton; three sisters, Iris Chase of Sacaton, Betsey Greene of Blackwater and Gina Webb of Santan; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Russell Chase, and two daughters, Claudia and Rebecca Chase.

Graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in North Blackwater Cemetery.
