ARIZONA CITY - Georgiana Louise Porter, 101, died at the home of her daughter Karen Eden of Arizona City, where she had resided the past nine years, on March 12, 2020. The family said that after her death, a rainbow appeared outside her window right before sunset.
Mrs. Porter was born on July 3, 1918, to Ella J. and Thomas H. Porter Sr. in Waukegan, Illinois. She was married to James E. Heywood and they had a daughter, Helen C. Heywood. Following the death of her husband, she was married to Homer L. Porter of Jackson, Tennessee. They had five children, Lana, Homer Jr., Eugene, Karen and Adam.
She worked at Great Lakes, Illinois, for a number of years and moved to Wisconsin, where she worked as an assistant librarian for the city of Milwaukee until she retired. Following her retirement, she moved to Arlington, Texas, to be near her daughter Lana and family, and later moved to Arizona.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Renwick; a brother, Thomas H. Porter Jr.; a daughter, Helen C. Heywood Roberts; and a granddaughter, Rosa Eden. Survivors include a sister, Emma R. Porter of Waukegan; five sons and daughters; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were private, with J. Warren Funeral Services in charge of arrangements.
