Gilbert Tarr, 80, of Casa Grande died on April 26, 2011, at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel, with rosary recited at 11. The funeral there will follow at 11:30a.m. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Tarr was born on Sept. 14, 1930, in Gothenburg, Neb., and was a son of Paul Tarr and Katherine Heuer. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a Ford parts manager. He was devoted to his family and was an active Catholic when his children were growing up.
He traveled often with his wife in their motor home around the western half of the country. Going to naval reunions was important to him. He coached his daughters’ softball teams, enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and loved to play horseshoes. He was a mentor and friend to many.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marie; three daughters, Lori Baskin of Las Vegas, Nev., Debbi Strait of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mari Smith of Phoenix; a brother, Melvin Tarr of Omaha; two sisters, Pauline Bell of Funk, Neb., and Marilyn Cunningham of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
