Gladys Berniece Henson White, 97, of Coolidge died peacefully on Dec. 12, 2010, in Casa Grande, with family and friends by her side.
The celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Church of Christ, with Joe Whitner officiating.
Mrs. White was born on May 17, 1913, in Grayson County, Texas. She was a homemaker. She loved art and creating furniture. She was an avid painter and sold many pictures that decorate the walls of homes and businesses throughout the region. She also wrote a collection of poems, and some were published in a Christian women’s magazine. She enjoyed writing letters to students in African nations.
She and her husband were original members of the Coolidge Church of Christ, where they were active all of their lives.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Anne Smith of Torrance, Calif., Julie Madsen of Bay Shore, N.Y., and Faye Lewis of Casa Grande; two sons, John White of Islip, N.Y., and Stephen White; a sister, Betty Jennings of Springtown, Texas; two brothers, Skeeter Henson of Williams and Pete Henson of Paulden; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W., in 1992.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home in Gallup, N.M.
