Bapchule

Gloria Jean Kyyitan, 69, of Bapchule, died peacefully on July 14, 2024, in Mesa, AZ. Mrs. Kyyitan was born in Albuquerque, NM, on October 26, 1954, to Stephen and Lorraine (Vincent) Jackson.

Gloria was known for her unwavering faith and sincere consideration for her family, friends, and colleagues. She loved her family deeply, and her eyes lit up when she saw her children and grandchildren. When words weren’t enough, she shared a hug. She loved music and enjoyed listening to a variety of genres. She was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and a great storyteller. Her humor brought much laughter to everyone around her, and her beautiful smile will certainly be missed.

Mrs. Kyyitan dedicated nearly 25 years of hard work to the Gila River Indian Community before retirement. She was part of the pre-opening team for Gila River Gaming Enterprise 30 years ago. She served in various capacities within the Office of the Treasurer and Community Council Secretary’s Office. Before relocating her family back to Gila River, she worked for Levi Strauss in San Francisco, CA.

Gloria married Lucius Kyyitan on June 21, 1997. During their union, they enjoyed traveling the US, serving their beloved church parish, and spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren. Many people who knew them as a couple said, “It was always Lucius and Gloria – one was never far from the other.”

She is survived by her children, Teresa Grant, Joni Kyyitan, Omar, and Rosie Rivera; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lucius Kyyitan; four sisters, Evalina La Francis, Stephanie Jackson, Beverly Munoz, and Corrine Herrera; two sons, Ryan and Cody; and one grandchild.

Funeral Mass on Friday, July 26, at 4 p.m., St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Rosary and visitation from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at the District 5 Multipurpose Building in Casa Blanca. Graveside service at 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
