Gordon Myvett

Gordon Hemsley Myvett, affectionately known as “Mr. G.” was born November 19, 1947, in Belize City, Belize to the union of Wilfred and Millicent Myvett. He was the baby of 16 children. Gordon has lived in Belize, Los Angeles, California, Chicago, IL, and most recently with his loving wife Eleanor and youngest son Jeremy in Maricopa, Arizona.

Gordon accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. He was a proud and faithful member of Southside Tabernacle Church for over 30 years and more recently a member of Holy of Holies church in Arizona where his youngest son Jeremey Myvett is the presiding pastor. Gordon’s love for Christ was demonstrated through his daily devotional time. Every day without fail, Gordon spent time reading the word of God and praying. He raised his children in the word of God requiring family time to be spent at the dining room table reading scripture and praying.

Gordon received his diploma from Wesley High School in Belize City Belize. Upon arriving in the United States he moved from Los Angeles, CA to Chicago, IL and worked for TriR Vending and ARA Vending companies for over twenty years combined. Gordon had an unparalleled work ethic. He worked diligently to provide for his family. He often worked overtime and took on side jobs repairing and building as he was good with his hands. He retired from ARA vending and went on to pursue entrepreneurship in real estate management. While living in Chicago, IL, Gordon spent nearly ten years buying, rehabbing, and managing rental properties. He also owned a video rental store. In this way, he was a self-made business man.
Gordon was united in holy matrimony to his beautiful and devoted bride Eleanor Austin in Chicago, IL on December 25, 1979. Gordon and Eleanor shared a total of 48 years together with 42 years of marriage. Together, they raised a beautiful family. Gordon was a kind and generous man. He would give the shirt off his back to his neighbor. Gordon opened his doors to anyone who needed a warm bed, good meal, and lots of love. He had a big heart and the Myvett house was home to many family and friends. He was a father figure to so many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In Gordon’s younger years, he was a DJ and some of the best parties in town were in the basement on Morgan Street. Whatever anyone heard that Gordon was having a party, they would make their way to 71st Street for good music and delicious food cooked by his wife Eleanor. One of Gordon’s hobbies was raising Doberman pinschers. He had a kennel in his basement where he bred Dobermans. Gordon was an avid sports fan. He loved almost all sports but his favorite was baseball and basketball. He was die –hard St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia 76ers fan.

Gordon was sharp, witty, and fun-loving. There was sure to be laughter if Gordon was around. He often referred to himself as the fourth wiseman. He would say his biggest regret in life was not winning the Lottery Mega-Million. Gordon loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He always felt his children were his greatest accomplishment.
Gordon transitioned from this earth to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parent, Wilfred and Millicent; and siblings, Gwendolyn, David, Gilbert, Gerald, Wilhelm, and Kenneth.

Gordon leaves a multitude of loving family members to cherish his memories: a loving wife Eleanor Myvett; four sons, Curt, Duane, Ian, and Jeremy (LaShawn); two daughters, Karen and LaTanya (Zeik); nineteen grandchildren, Miles, Jasmine, Vanessa, Shantel , Rashinique, Jonathan, Dominique, Ian, Deshawn, Kian, Nia Malik, Tianna, Josiah, Javian, Tavian, Jeremy, Neviah, and Elijah; three great-grandchildren, Laila, John, and Majesty; two sisters, Dotsy and Veda; one brother William (Bill); best friend of over forty years, Hippolito (Netty), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
