Gregory Douglas Goodman was born February 4, 1960, in Monett, Missouri and spent his early years in southwest Missouri. Greg grew up in a noisy, blended household with his siblings, Kelly, Andy, Kristi, Michelle and Richard.
On August 10, 1980, Greg enlisted in the US Navy and joined an Acoustic Warfare team. He met Kathleen Kakar when stationed in California and they were married November 13, 1987. They welcomed four children who became affectionately known as "The 4 J’s." Joshua Matthew, Jacob Francisco, Jonathan Douglas and Jordan Lynn.
The family was stationed at NAS Moffett Field, NAS Brunswick, Maine and NAS Whidbey Island. After serving 20 years, Greg retired in San Antonio, Texas, after achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He continued to serve his fellow military members by working at USAA Investment Management Company as a Senior Investment Operations Specialist.
Greg had many titles over the years. His close friends and wife called him Goody and he was Chief to the sailors who reported to him. His children called him Old Man, Dad or Papa Bear.
He was not only a caring husband and amazing father to his own children; he generously took in friends, neighbors and anyone who needed a "second dad."
