CASA GRANDE - Harold Metzger Jr., 94, of Casa Grande died on Jan. 29, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Mr. Metzger was born on Nov. 6, 1923, in Anthony, Kansas, to Harold A. and Ruth (Cammerer) Metzger. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy but was medically discharged a year later. He attended a trade school and trained to be a tool grinder. He quickly landed a job at Coleman Company and then made airplane parts at Beechcraft in Wichita.
He married the love of his life, Fern I. Stump, on April 6, 1946. They moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1957 when he accepted a job at the Rocky Flats nuclear plant as a tool grinder and then supervisor. He was always a hard worker and made sure everyone was taken care of before himself. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. The couple moved to Casa Grande in 2014 to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 72 years; a son, Harold Mark Metzger of Casa Grande; a sister, Arlene Metzger of Valley Center, Kansas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, at J. Warren Funeral Services, Mountain View Chapel.
