Harriet Ann Diwan, age 85 of Casa Grande, passed away in her home on Wednesday September 27, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She spent her last months in her home and was cared for by her grandson and family.
Harriet was born on April 16, 1938 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Golden JoElla Hambleton and Harry Woodson Weaver. When growing up she would ride a horse to school. The school was a one room schoolhouse in Tabler, Oklahoma, about seven miles from her home.
Harriet graduated from Chickasha High School in 1956 and continued her education at the Oklahooma College for Women, now known as the University of Oklahoma. She received a four year Bachelor of Science degree in May 1959 with a major in Business Education, earning it in only three years. She began her teaching career in Coolidge, Arizona in 1959, teaching elementary school, then at the high school ;evel the following year. After raising two children, she returned to teaching at Casa Grande Middle School where she taught for thirty years in subjects including social studies, language arts, consumer awareness, life shills, typing and food and clothing. She also taught shorthand and English as a second language part time at Central Arizona College and continued as a substitute teacher for Casa Grande Union High School district until her retirement in 2018. Harriet enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and treasured being with her family. She was known for her generosity and kindness towards other people.
She is survived by her brother, Phillip Weaver, son, Mikel Diwan, grandsons, Marcus Allen and Cameron Freerking; granddaughter, Sara Freerking, along with four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Misty Diwan and a brother, Charles Weaver. Private services are pending.
