He joined the U.S. Army at age 18, served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired honorably after 20 years of service. He met and fell in love with Jacquelin Miller in 1955. They married on Jan. 21, 1956, and shared 54 years of marriage before she died last year. Over the years, they called different places home but eventually settled in Casa Grande. They loved the sun, getting together with friends and playing music. Mr. Nations was an avid musician who started playing the guitar as a young man. Bluegrass was his favorite music, but he also played country and gospel. Family members said, “Anytime he was pickin,’ he was happy.” He and Jackie also traveled to Washington and Oregon, where they loved spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Joe.
