Helen Louise Clutter, 86, of Casa Grande died on March 11, 2012, at Family Tree Assisted Living.
The celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel, with Pastor Harley Faber officiating.
Mrs. Clutter was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Cranston, R.I., a daughter of Clifford W. and Catherine Raftery Tanner. Her wish to become a nurse was interrupted by World War II. She became a war bride when she married Edward E. Clutter of Dayton, Ohio. She and her husband moved to Arizona in 1954 and lived for a short time in Wilhoit and Kingman and then the Casa Grande area for 54 years. She was a bookkeeper and always had at least one job while managing a household of five children, taking care of their cuts, scrapes, broken bones and broken hearts.
She managed the office of Custom Farm Service for many years and also worked in the accounting department of Hoemako hospital. In retirement she continued to do bookkeeping and taxes for family and friends. She was secretary-treasurer of Casa Grande Little League for many years and also was a swimming coach. In retirement she and her husband traveled all over the United States and Mexico, including in their own airplane.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; a daughter, Catherine Prentice; two grandchildren, Lisa Vance and Scott Prentice; and two sisters, Mary Covill and Margie Price. She is survived by two sons, Edward "Bud" Clutter of Cordoba, Argentina, and Steven "Pete" Clutter of Casa Grande; two daughters, Janice C. Weaver of Casa Grande and Cynthia Vance of Paso Robles, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Saunders of Rhode Island; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
