Hermina Anderson peacefully passed away on May 26th, 2024 surrounded by her loving
family. She was born May 29th, 1934 in Phoenix, AZ the second of 4 siblings, her mother
Beaulah G. Zollers and father Raymond Lee Odell . Hermina graduated from North Phoenix
High School and attended U of A for 2 years on a fine arts scholarship. Over 67 years ago
she moved from Phoenix to Maricopa, AZ then made the rapid transition from city girl to the
responsibility of being a farm wife. Hermina was an accomplished pianist, she used these
musical and other artistic talents to play the piano for the Maricopa Community Christian
Church (20 years). Likewise she directed multiple dinner theaters and musicals in the
community. Hermina was heavily involved with teaching cooking for 4-H, serving on the local
school board and former president of Pinal County Cotton Wives. She enjoyed being one of
the founding members of the Maricopa Historical Society and Friends of the Library..
A favorite vacation activity was summer fishing trips to the White Mountain lakes, where she
out-fished everyone and cooked chicken and dumplings in a Dutch oven over a camp fire,
a meal that her family talks about today. One of Hermina's major accomplishments, knowing
she couldn't swim, was to have rafted through the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River - twice
In recent years, she loved watching the ducks and ducklings outside her bedroom window - their
name for her was "Quack, Quack".
Hermina was a loving mother of 3 sons (Kelly, Troy, Lynn) and one daughter (Wendy), 5 grandsons,
an aunt to 10 nieces and nephews, and wonderful wife to Oliver Anderson. In addition, via a foreign
exchange program hosting two members of the same Brazilian family (Marisa Maldini Penna, Juliana Maldini Penna),
Hermina eventually became a mother, grandmother and great grandmother to an extended family
in Brazil, whom she loved very much.
Hermina is survived by her husband, 3 sons, daughter, one brother (Jordan O'dell), grandsons
and many of her Brazilian family,. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Maricopa
Historical Society and the AZ 4-H Youth Foundation or an organization of your choice in her remembrance.
A special heart felt thank you to two caregivers who treated Hermina with utmost care, respect
and love these past few years - Angela Boone and Joyce Gilbert.
