MONTROSE, Colo. - Hugh Alvin Chandler, 83, formerly of Casa Grande, died peacefully on Nov. 12, 2016, at his residence at Valley Manor Care Center, where he had been living near his daughter for the past seven years.
Mr. Chandler was born on March 2, 1933, and grew up in Arkansas, the oldest son of Fred E. and Josephine (Starks) Chandler. He served in the Korean War as an anti-aircraft artillery crewman. He moved to Casa Grande at age 19 when his mother took ill with leukemia. His mother’s last words to him were to take care of her baby, Hazel M., which he did.
He married Beverly Ann Myers and they lived and worked in Casa Grande for most of their lives. He later married Scottice Casey. He worked for Chevron Oil until he retired. He was known for his great generosity and had a strong work ethic, which he taught to every one of his children, and he was a man of jokes and laughter.
He is survived by a sister, Hazel M. Barker of Eloy; five daughters and sons, Ellen (Chandler) Stephens, Keith, Ron and Edward Chandler and Rochelle (Chandler) Miller; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives and a brother and sister, Noble E. Chandler and Hettie M. (Chandler).
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mountain View Cemetery.
