Jacqueline Ann Brown was born on July 6, 1941, to Rebecca Miller and Clifford Brown. She was the eldest of seven children. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised humbly in Maywood, Illinois.
Jacqueline, lovingly known as Jackie, received her primary education in Maywood. She graduated from Saints Junior College. Jackie received her master’s degree in education from Chicago State University.
Jackie's career path in education led her to the passion of teaching, as an elementary school teacher, high school teacher, and high school counselor. Jackie loved her students as her own children. Jackie pushed her students to succeed with a firm teaching style and a caring heart. In her 39-years of teaching, Jackie fought hard to assure every student received quality education. She inspired many to follow in her footsteps to become educators.
Jackie received formal piano lessons at a young age. As a result, she continued to play for over 65-years for various churches such as Progressive, Argo Temple, Greater Holy Temple, Prayer Assembly, Greater Evangelist Temple and host of other congregations. Jackie was a member of the Chicago Pentecostal Choir led by one of her best friends, Elder James Lenox. She also sung in the Church of God in Christ National Choir.
Jackie started playing for Progressive Church of God in Christ in her youth and continued to play over 20-years. Jackie was the church organist for Argo Temple over 39-years and started the First Women's Day Services, started annual 4th Sunday Musicals, was President of YWCC, and had the largest youth choir in her area. Jackie was the State Choir President for 5th Illinois Jurisdiction for over 20-years. Jackie also had dual membership at Greater Holy Temple Church and Greater Evangelist Temple.
Jackie was a great mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, co-worker, co-labor, and friend. She was a traveling partner, a confidant, and a great supporter of the church. Jackie opened her heart and home to family members and others. She took care of her mother, daughters, and sister. She raised her nephews, niece, and 3 grandsons. Jackie sacrificed much to make sure she supported her family. Jackie even left the windy city to move to the desert to nurse her ill daughter back to good health. Jackie's love for family and friends was endless. Of all the good she did, kindness she shared, battles she fought, she didn't win them all, but she never gave up on her services rendered, always lending a helping hand, having faced unresolved problems, she did her very best.
Jackie is now resting from her labor and has been called home to receive her reward, a Crown of Righteousness! We love you and we will miss you always, Mother Jackie!
