CASA GRANDE - The family of James Henry "Jim" Metzger Jr., 62, will come together with his friends and fellow community members in a celebration of his life at a memorial service at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel.
Born May 5, 1954, in Nogales, Arizona, to Jim and Mary Metzger, he moved with his family to Casa Grande as a small boy. He was known by many as a true "Casa Grande man." He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1972. He worked at Hexcel for more than 25 years until he continued his career as a master planner with Triumph Group in Chandler.
Family was a critical aspect of Mr. Metzger’s life. Together with his wife, Donna Metzger, he raised two children, James H. Metzger III and Vanessa Sellers. They maintained their home in Casa Grande for over 30 years. His kindness was noted in his general demeanor but also in his support of his family. He was the caretaker for his grandmother, supported his father and mother during their final days and was the rock for his wife when she endured a terminal illness.
Known as a jovial man, he could always be relied upon for a funny story or a joke told with impeccable timing. He was a true friend to many, enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing poker and could be relied upon to barbecue the best ribs around. He had a special love for animals and adopted several dogs over his life. He died on Sept. 28, 2016, at home.
Survivors include his son, Jim of Anchorage, Alaska; his daughter, Vanessa Sellers of Chandler; two sisters, Linda Wagers of Maryville, Tennessee, and Mary Ellen Metzger of Flagstaff; and seven grandchildren.
