James "Jim" Robert Weaver

November 11, 1947 — September 26, 2017

MARICOPA - James Robert "Jim" Weaver, 69, died on Sept. 26, 2017.
Mr. Weaver was born on Veterans Day in Kansas City, Missouri, and he loved his country with a passion. He bravely served as an Army medic during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart Medal in 1970. Soon after, he met Patty and married in 1971. They made their life in Wichita, Kansas. Together, they raised her two daughters and added three more children to the family. He was a respected and loyal employee of the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for most of his adult life. His co-workers frequently sought him out for his knowledge and affectionately referred to him as "the Master."
Lovingly referred to by his family as "The Most Interesting Man in the World," he was an accomplished classical and jazz guitarist. He learned from his father, who played with Les Paul for a time. He passed his deep love of music on to his children and grandchildren, and several also play. Art, music and old movies brought him much joy during his life. He would often lovingly force his kids and grandkids to watch old movies with him and converted them all! "Man of La Mancha" was one of his all-time favorites as evidenced by his Don Quixote art and clothing collection. He was also a huge sports fan, especially of baseball and his beloved Red Sox, who scouted him when he was only 16 years old. He could spout off stats from the old days and rarely missed his beloved Red Sox on TV. He enjoyed his loyal canine, Maggie, and was a man of honor and integrity who instilled these values in his posterity.
He is survived by his faithful wife; a sister, Leimauna Martin; a brother, Larry Weaver, both of Wichita; his five devoted children, Cherrise West, Shelli Vaughn, Amanda Richardson, all of Gilbert, Paul Weaver of Bremerton, Washington, and Troy Weaver of Wichita; and 10 grandchildren.
Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maricopa Stake Center.
