Jennie Hancock Crockett

Jennie Hancock Crockett, a longtime resident of Casa Grande, AZ., passed away May 15, 2020.

Jennie was born November 27, 1929 at Bryce, Arizona to Melvin and Blanche Hancock. She always spoke with pride about her pioneer heritage and the love she had for her family. She went to school in Pima AZ., where she met her sweetheart, Elmo T. Crockett. They married on June 1, 1948, in the Mesa LDS Temple.

Jennie and Elmo moved to Casa Grande in 1955 where Elmo worked for Bingham Equipment. She took pride in her career choice as a homemaker. She and Elmo worked as a team, with Jennie’s designs and Elmo’s hammer; together, they created a beautiful home. She made draperies, reupholstered furniture, and made and tailored clothing. Known for her skills in the kitchen, Jennie would start in October in order to make Thanksgiving a homemade feast, not only for her family, but also, for those who might be alone for the holiday.

Jennie had a great sense of humor evident in the many poems, short stories and songs she wrote over the years. I Fell in Love in ¾ Time is a family favorite, a song that highlights Elmo and Jennie’s courtship. She created volumes of family histories, and stories, a passion she worked on until her passing.

Jennie was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She actively sought to love God with all her heart, and to love her neighbor as herself.

With all of Jennie’s talents and skills, nothing meant more to her than nurturing and loving her family. She and Elmo had six children, Gary, Caroline, Diane, Alan, Kathy and Mitchell. She took great delight in her 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. While her passing leaves an empty place in our hearts, we rejoice at the thought of her reunion with Elmo and her daughter, Caroline, and her other family members who preceded her in death. Her legacy of love, service, faith, creativity, and fun will continue to bless the lives of generations to come.
