Jerry Odom

June 3, 1934 — January 25, 2020

Mr. Odom was born on June 3, 1934, in Morton, Texas, to Loyd and Inez Odom at their home, their third child. The family was on their way to Oregon but car trouble stopped them in Casa Grande. The couple decided it would be a great place to raise a family. He attended Casa Grande Union High School and graduated in 1952. He met his future bride, Billie Rae Compton, after he graduated, and they married shortly after her graduation in 1954. Together they raised four children.

He worked for Prettyman's Market, Paramount Packing and the Casa Grande Dispatch. He spent 42 years working for Pinal Printing & Publishing, from which he retired in 1998. He was active in every phase of the business. While raising his children, he was very active in the community. He served on the City Council, coached Pop Warner football and Little League and was instrumental in the development and construction of the Little League Complex where children still play today. Seeing the complex complete was one of the biggest pleasures in his life.

He loved serving others and was an active, faithful member of the Church of Christ. He was always doing benevolent work, teaching or counseling those in need, and loved his church family and spreading the gospel.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son, Jeri Lynn (Russ)Taylor of Mesquite, Nevada, Curtis (Jckie) Odom of Casa Grande and Beth (Van)Taylor of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Judy Leslie of Casa Grande; a brother, Bob Odom of Maricopa; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kent Odom, and six siblings, Maxylene Crabbe, Sue Tyler, Jim Odom, Shirley Triponey, Patsy Green and Audrey Odom.
