Jesus Torrez Espinoza Jr., affectionately known as Chuy, passed away peacefully on August 24 2024, at the age of 94 in Ajo, Arizona. He was born on February 10, 1930, in Clemenceau, Arizona, where he spent the first 22 years of his life before moving Ajo, where he lived for the remainder of his days.

Chuy served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his courageous service during the Korean War. His dedication to his country was a source of pride for his family and friends.

Throughout his life, Chuy pursued various hobbies and interests that reflected his vibrant personality. He enjoyed hunting, watching westerns, cooking, and frequenting the casino. He was a passionate sports fan, particularly of the University of Arizona and the Arizona Diamondbacks, dedicating many hours to cheering for his teams. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of camping, which offered him moments of peace and joy in nature.

Chuy is survived by a loving family that includes his siblings Dolores Soto, Stella Krznarich, Annie James, and Margaret Celeya. He cherished his role as a father to Gerald Espinoza, Steven Espinoza, Lori Espinoza, and Marissa Guthrie, who is married to Shannon Guthrie. He is also survived by his daughter Ilsa Castillo, married to Michael Castillo. Among his family members, Chuy held a special bond with his beloved Chihuahua, Chica, who was truly his sixth child. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Belia Maria Espinoza, and several siblings, including Ishmael "Mike" Torrez, Gilbert Espinoza, Jose Espinoza, Esther Derrick, Mary Lou Cuthbertson, and Juan Espinoza.

A visitation to honor Chuy's life will take place on September 13, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ajo-Douglass Funeral Home located at 11 West Pajaro St, Ajo, AZ. A prayer service will follow on September 14, 2024, starting at 9:30 AM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 100 N Pizal Ln, Ajo, AZ, culminating in a Mass at 10:00 AM. Chuy will then be laid to rest in a burial service at Ajo Cemetery, 1181 Cedar St, Ajo, AZ, at 11:15 AM.

Chuy will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, the love he had for his family, and the joy he found in life. He touched the hearts of many, and his memory will continue to live on in the lives of those he loved.
