BAPCHULE - John Ambrose Lopez, 78, of Bapchule died on Sept. 3, 2017, at Chandler Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Lopez was born on June 24, 1939, in Sacaton to Lester J. and Angelita (Marrietta) Lopez. He was a farmworker most of his life on many area farms. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and church.
Loved by many, he received his biggest joy in singing gospel hymns in his O'odham language to many audiences.
Survivors include a son, Terrance Johns of Bapchule; three daughters, Iris Pablo of Hashan Kehk (Sacaton Flats), Natalie Johns of Maricopa and Faye Marilyn Lewis of Casa Grande; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna C. Johns-Lopez; five brothers, Raymond, Anthony, Ignacio, Roy and Justin Lopez; and five sisters, Louise, Marjorie, Elizabeth, Jeanette and Sara Lopez.
Visitation from 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the District 1 Multipurpose Building in Blackwater. Funeral there at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, with the Rev. Lynette Johns officiating. Burial in West Blackwater Cemetery.
