John E. O'Donnell

PHOENIX - John E. O'Donnell, 93, formerly a longtime Pinal County businessman, died on Aug. 30, 2017, in Chandler.
Mr. O'Donnell was born on Dec. 22, 1923, in Phoenix and was the son of John R. O'Donnell and Grace Eberly, an only child. He grew up in Superior, served in World War II and married his childhood sweetheart, Barbra Stone, on Aug. 28, 1948, in Bakersfield, California. He inherited and was an owner of the company now called The Mahoney Group until the 1980s. He was a philanthropist with many businesses and belonged to several service organizations.
He and his wife raised 11 children in Superior and Casa Grande, and he never missed a game, diving meet, play or activity his children participated in throughout their school years. He was an avid fan of all of his children and a devout Catholic who received daily Communion for more than 50 years. He was inducted into the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 69 years and is survived by 11 sons and daughters, John, Jim, Tom, Catherine, Tim, Lois, Pat, Michael, Mary Ann, Joe and Danny; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Rosary and Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix. Burial in Fairview Cemetery in Superior.
