John Gregory Brown Hartney

November 18, 1950 — March 2, 2020

CASA GRANDE - John Gregory Brown Hartney, 69, died on March 2, 2020, in Casa Grande, surrounded by his wife and family.

Mr. Hartney was born in Manhattan, New York City, and traveled all over the world serving in the military for over 19 years. He was a master chief petty officer in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He then joined General Electric as an operations executive and moved to Ohio. He met his wife, Joanie, there.

He was known for his love of the water and boating, watching the Yankees play, his love for not only his grandchildren but the many children he helped watch over in the couple’s preschool-day care center and his immense patience and kindness. He was adored by everyone and a survivor and fighter, having lived many years after a debilitating car crash and through many illnesses. Truly an overcomer, he was patient and loving through all his adversities and trials.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years; four children, John Hartney of Massachusetts, Rebecca Lally of Massachusetts, Jacqueline Henkel of Arizona and Brian Hartney of Ohio; four siblings, Kevin Brown, Eileen Mishk, Wiliam Brown and Gary; and nine grandchildren with another on the way named for him, Anthem John, due on his wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, David Brown.

Celebration of life at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the priest who married the couple, the Rev. Ariel Lustan.

J. Warren Funeral Services in charge of arrangements.
