John Herman Lambert

John Herman Lambert, 90, a longtime Casa Grande-area resident, died peacefully on his 68th wedding anniversary, Nov. 30, 2008, at RTA Hospice House.


Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel. The funeral will follow at 2, with the Rev. Raymond Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Lambert was born Sept. 20, 1918 in Baird, Texas, and was a son of John W. and Lula Belle Fincher Lambert. He farmed in Texas before bringing his family to Casa Grande in 1943. He worked in the cotton fields, was a night watchman at Casa Grande Mills and then owned an Enco service station for many years.

He lost his right arm at age 13 in a riding accident but remained active with horses, allowing his children to ride and own them. He was an honorary member of the sheriff's posse and managed the beer shack at rodeo grounds functions. He loved his family, ice cream, the Dallas Cowboys, the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had a quick wit and charming personality and was always willing to help when he could. He loved to hunt and fish and frequently was seen with his shovel, digging in his garden or chopping weeds.

Survivors include his wife, Lyndall; two sons and a daughter, Robert Larry Lambert of Casa Grande, Stephen Lambert of Carlin, Nev., and Sandi Salcido of Casa Grande; a sister, LaVelle; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four children, Jonnie Lambert, Paulette Durant, Marion Joy Lutrick and Gary Lambert; two brothers, Therman and Troy Lambert; two grandchildren, Christopher and Laura Lambert, as well as his parents and stepmother, Blance Lambert.
