BLACKWATER — John Henry Jacobs Sr., 76, of Blackwater died on March 10, 2012, in Chandler.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the District 1 Service Center. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Blackwater Presbyterian Church, with Evangelist Randy Ruiz officiating. Burial will be in North Blackwater Cemetery.
Mr. Jacobs was born on Nov. 11, 1935, in Sacaton and was a son of Scott Javelina and Alice Sanchiago-Jacobs. He served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, then in the Merchant Marine for eight years. He continued to attend 82nd Airborne reunions. He later continued his education and obtained two master's degrees. He was a social service director working with Native Americans on alcohol and other substance abuse problems for 25 years in San Francisco, Oakland, Gallup, N.M., and Arizona and recently retired.
He also was a published author and an ordained minister who officiated at hundreds of funerals, weddings and baptisms and preached in both English and Pima. He also enjoyed travel.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gina Eagle-Jacobs; two daughters, Lisa V. Martinez and Rose M. Davis of Coolidge; a son, John H. Jacobs Jr. of Coolidge; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jonelle A. Jacobs.
