John "Tom" Whitehead

STANFIELD - John Thomas "Tom" Whitehead, 78, a longtime Stanfield businessman, died on May 21, 2015, at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center.

The celebration of life will begin at 10 a.m. June 7 at LaVeigh’s Lounge in Stanfield.

Mr. Whitehead was born on Jan. 25, 1937, in Haleyville, Alabama, and was a son of Filo Whitehead and Loraine Hughes. He served in the Army and worked with the North American Aerospace Defense Command. He later owned Stanfield Texaco, John’s Auto Garage, John’s Used Cars and LaVeigh’s Lounge and was a bartender after retiring in 2001, which he really enjoyed.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and Stanfield Gun Association and loved playing pool, shooting guns with his buddies and cooking for his friends and family on Sundays. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, LaDenna; three sons, Johnny Whitehead of Stanfield, Brent Catri of Ohio and Jimmy Brown of North Dakota; three daughters, Linda S. Catri of Ohio, Laurie L. Whitehead of Chandler and DeAnna Bural of Texas; three brothers, Ed Whitehead of Yuma, Mac Whitehead of Casa Grande and George Whitehead of Arkansas; a sister, Pauline Gladback of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby; two sisters, Dorothy Brock and Maejean Lee; and a grandson, Curtis Whitehead.
