Jose D. Martinez, 84, of Casa Grande died on Nov. 30, 2013, in Casa Grande.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud Coolidge Chapel. The funeral will follow at 6.
Mr. Martinez was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in Los Angeles. He harvested lettuce for 28 years before retirement. He also provided 45 years of pioneer service as a Jehovah’s Witness and was a full-time minister, with 30 years ministering at correctional facilities in Pinal County. He received awards for being the longest serving minister in corrections, and ministering was his life. He enjoyed camping, people, desserts and spending time with his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Lupe Q. Martinez of Coolidge; six sons, Herman R. Martinez of Mesa, Jose M. Martinez of Casa Grande, Willie Martinez of Peoria, Victor J. Martinez of San Tan Valley, Carlos A. Martinez of Atlanta and Fernando A. Martinez of Phoenix; a sister, Linda Maldonado of Yuba City, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Catalina Quintero Martinez; a brother, Tomas Martinez; and a sister, Juana Miranda.
