Jose Garcia Vitela Sr., 63, of Casa Grande died on July 4, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix.
Visitation will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 8:30. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. by the Rev. Felix Rodriguez. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Vitela was born on Nov. 28, 1947, in Brownsville, Texas. He was an elementary school custodian and a hardworking man. He was devoted to his wife and was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved to work in his yard and was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carmen; four daughters, Carmen Woodard of Chandler, Hilda Vitela-Ortega and Elizabeth Vitela of Casa Grande and Patricia Martinez of Coolidge; two sons, Joe Angel Santiago Vitela Jr. of Casa Grande and Miguel A. Vitela of Coolidge; his father, Herculano Vitela of Brownsville; four sisters, Toribia Garza of Brownsville, Juna Hernandez, Josepha Pena and Bertha Apodaca, all of Casa Grande; a brother, Jesus G. Vitela of Brownsville; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lazara Garcia, and a sister, Enriqueta Saldivar.
