Joseph "Joe" Tucker

August 14, 1937 — June 1, 2014

ARIZONA CITY - Joseph Vernon "Joe" Tucker, 76, of Arizona City died peacefully at home on June 1, 2014.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Casa Grande. Interment will be in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.

Mr. Tucker was born on Aug. 14, 1937, in Coldwater, Michigan, and was raised there, one of six children of Lucille and Theodore Tucker Sr. He enlisted in the Navy at an early age and served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1962, he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on nuclear submarines until his retirement in 1993. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and raised registered Appaloosa horses and cattle with his brother Larry in Washington.

After retirement he moved to Arizona City in 1993. He was active in volunteering at the Arizona City Library, taking "his ladies" to the grocery store and helping anyone who needed it. He had a very strong faith in Jesus Christ and read his Bible every day. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church every Sunday and was active there over the years, serving as vice president, usher and on several committees. He ended every conversation with a firm handshake and the phrase "You have a good one." He enjoyed really strong "Navy" coffee.

Survivors include two brothers, Theodore Tucker Jr. of Missouri and William Tucker of Washington; a sister, Doris Coe of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred "Fritz" and Larry Tucker.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 1428 N. Pueblo Drive, Casa Grande, AZ 85122.
