AK-CHIN - Joseph Clifford Smith, 69, died peacefully on June 4, 2018, at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, with his family at his side.
Mr. Smith was born on Feb. 11, 1949, in Ak-Chin to Pauline and Amos Smith. He was a member of the Ak-Chin Indian Community and worked for the tribe for 35-plus years in the Sanitation Department. He also served on the Tribal Council and really cared about his community and its people.
He was a talented musician and played guitar, harmonica and sang at various events. During his spare time he painted beautiful artwork. He was devoted to his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer and Cheryl Smith; two brothers, Norman Vincent Sr. and Lemuel Vincent; four sisters, Carole Lopez, Glennadean Lewis, Norma Jean and Roxanne Vincent; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Gloria; two brothers, Fernando Smith Sr. and Sylvester Smith; and a sister, Diane Rodriguez.
Funeral at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at Ak-Chin Bible Church, with visitation following. Graveside service at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 11, in Ak-Chin Cemetery.
