CASA GRANDE - Keith L. Scott, 90, of Casa Grande died peacefully on Sept. 28, 2016.
Dr. Scott was born in 1926 in Macomb, Illinois, to Lyle and Clarice Scott. He spent his childhood and adolescent years in Carthage, Illinois, and joined the Navy after high school, during World War II. He served on the USS Okanogan (APA-220), a transport ship that took troops to fight in the war.
After he was discharged from the Navy, he went to college and received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education with a double minor in history and biology from Carthage College. He later completed a doctorate in education from the University of Colorado. He spent more than 44 years in various areas of education from driving buses, teaching a kindergarten class, lecturing at a university, coaching a team and superintendent of schools to positions as vice president at multiple institutions of higher education, specializing in fundraising. He participated in many activities over his 90 years and excelled in most. If he wasn’t out fundraising for education, he was on the golf course, refereeing a basketball or baseball game or at home watching golf, baseball or basketball on TV. He was a member of Masons.
He lived in multiple states: Illinois, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida, California, West Virginia, New Mexico and Arizona. In all of the years and all of the locations, his humble, kindhearted nature touched many lives, and with his positivity and wisdom he left the world a better place. He enjoyed his dachshund, Kinsey.
Survivors include a daughter, Nicole Costales of Casa Grande; a brother, Jim Scott of Bloomington, Illinois; a sister, Laura A. Carle of Carthage; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Ellefritz.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana.
