SACATON - Kenneth Gerald Hayes, 87, of Sacaton died on May 5, 2019.

Mr. Hayes was born on Sept. 6, 1931, in Sacaton to Jobe and Nancy (Whittaker) Hayes. An Army veteran, he served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a brother of the late Ira Hayes, the World War II Marine Corps veteran who was immortalized in a photo of the famed flag raising on Iwo Jima.

He loved spending time with his family and playing cards and was kind and loving to everyone he met.

He is survived by extended family members and was preceded in death by brothers Ira, Leonard and Verondean Hayes.

Public wake from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at the District 5 Service Center in Casa Blanca. Graveside service at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, in Vah-Ki Cemetery.
