Laura Mae Sam

Laura Mae Sam, 91, of Gehakah Village, died on November 29, 2024. Born on November 19, 1933, in Buckeye, she was the daughter of Elena Alicia Lopez and Avieal Cruz Sam. 

Laura was a remarkable O'odham woman, deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and dedicated to the traditions of her community. She was known for her skill as a traditional basket weaver and found joy in horseback riding and dancing during her younger years. Above all, Laura cherished her family, to whom she was entirely devoted. 

Throughout her life, Laura remained in Gehakah Village, where she built lasting memories and connections within her community. She is survived by her brother, Robert Sam. She is preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Johnny Lopez Sam and Agnes Rose Gregg.
