Laverne Faye Blackwater, 87, a resident of Sacaton, peacefully passed away at her home on July 28, 2024. Born in Sacaton on August 13, 1936, to Matthew Sr. and Edith Kisto, Laverne's life was marked by an unwavering work ethic evident in every role she embraced, from her work as a nurse to her dedication as a teacher's aide. Renowned for her compassionate demeanor and welcoming presence, Laverne possessed a heart of gold that embraced all those around her as family. Her home as a haven of solace and support, offering warmth, sustenance, and companionship to those in need.

Family and faith formed the bedrock of Laverne's existence. She found profound joy in her roles as a devoted mother, grandmother, and active participant in her church community. The laughter and shared moments with her grandchildren brought boundless happiness to Laverne's life; their presence was a constant source of joy. Embracing not only her immediate family but also her neighbors, Laverne embodied a spirit of generosity and inclusivity. Her annual Halloween gatherings were a testament to her hospitality, where all were welcomed to partake in music, treats, and festivities. Among her interests were reading the Bible, traveling, and completing crossword puzzles.

In addition to the legacy of love and compassion she leaves behind, Laverne is survived by her sons Roland Jr., Eugene, Richard, Russell Sr., Daniel Sr., and Joseph Blackwater; her brother Matthew Kisto Jr.; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Roland Sr., daughter Janice Blackwater, and siblings Shirley, Janice, George, Raymond, Robert, and Duane.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 1st from 7-10pm at the family residence, 254 W. Sage Court in Sacaton. Funeral Services will be held the following morning at Sacaton Presbyterian Church at 6am followed by burial in Sacaton East Cemetery.
