BENSON - Lawrence Allen Fortney, 78, of Benson died at home on Jan. 9, 2016.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Benson Community Center.
Mr. Fortney was born on May 22, 1937, in Hartsgrove, Ohio, and was a son of Lawrence and Fern Fortney. He worked for Tucson Electric Power and helped build towers from the Four Corners area to Tucson. After retiring he built electrical high-voltage lines in Saudi Arabia as a contractor.
He loved NASCAR and was a big Tony Stewart fan. He also loved to garden and do yard work and loved his wife and family. He was a joker and enjoyed family gatherings, watching Peyton Manning play football and taking train rides.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Chambers-Fortney; a son, Lawrence Fortney Jr. of Patagonia; two daughters, Tamara Joyce of Pueblo, Colorado, and Melissa Cordova of Patagonia; three stepsons, Dale Mosley of Casa Grande, Bryan Mosley of Gilbert and Mike Chambers of Phoenix; a stepdaughter, Dawn Murray of Phoenix; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Mark Chambers.
