On April 24th, 2020, the heavens opened up for a new angel, Leon Eugene Threlkel. Leon was the youngest son to Sadie and Virgil Threlkel and was brother to Orena M. Custer-Covey and Bernelda V. Bruce. Leon married the love of his life and his best friend, Carole Elizabeth Pankau, on November 25th, 1955. Leon and Carole had seven children: Pamela Domejka, John Threlkel, Timothy Threlkel, Cynthia Owsiany, Mike Threlkel, Bryan Threlkel and Virgil Threlkel. He was a beloved grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Leon taught his children how to build a barn in the mountains while raising his children into leaders, who lead others to build great things. Leon was a loving, humorous man. His children would say he taught them how to build with their hands, see the obvious, laugh deeply, and cherish the small things. He was a hero to all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always knew how to turn a bad day into a good day. He had a deep love for antiques, collectibles, and knew the story and history behind every treasure he found.
Leon will be deeply missed and will forever be cherished in each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Leon’s laughter will ring for many years to come and his stories will continue to be told. May heaven and angels enjoy our greatest hero and our biggest fan. Until we meet again, Pops!
