Levi Card

May 6, 1922 — June 20, 2008

BLACKWATER - Levi Card, 86, of Blackwater died June 20, 2008 in Casa Grande.

The graveside service will be at 5 a.m. Saturday in West Blackwater Cemetery, with the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating.

Mr. Card was born May 6, 1922 and was a son of Manuel and Petra Card. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Years ago he worked for Salt River Project building canals through Phoenix, Mesa and the Salt River Indian Community. His passion, however, was farming, and he spent many years at it.

He was a direct, no-nonsense but quiet man who enjoyed his solitude. He was old-fashioned but a good teacher and very generous in sharing his knowledge about various things, including farming. He was generous with his family. He enjoyed telling stories about the area and the history of the land.

Survivors include three daughters, Dixie Padilla of Scottsdale, Vernice and Denise Card of Salt River; two sons, Austin and Gillman Card of Salt River; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Alonzo Card; a sister, Mariana Domingo; and two brothers, Russell and Howard Card.

J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
