ELOY - Lola Mae Owens, 87, died on Dec. 15, 2013, in Bakersfield, Calif.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Valley Chapel. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
Ms. Owens was born on May 20, 1926, to Sam Neally and Mary Grant in Carthage, Texas. Her family moved to DeBerry, Texas, then to Greenville, Texas, where she completed fifth grade and went to work in the fields. She met and married James H. Owens on Nov. 9, 1945. She later moved to Casa Grande and worked for Eloy Elementary Schools and a cotton compress. She moved to California in 1984.
Survivors include six sons, Ester Lee, Calvin, Dale, Jimmy and David Owens, all of Bakersfield, and Henry Owens of Phoenix; three daughters, Lola Bell Billingsly, Thelma Foster and Beatrice Owens, all of Bakersfield; a brother, Clarence T. Lister; 43 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, James Jr., Willie, Eddie and Linda Kay; five siblings, Eddie Franklin, Neal Gray, Sally Martin, Emma Horton and Annie Brown; and a grandson, Rodney B. Sorriell.
