OAKUM KUK VILLAGE - Maria C. Lopez, 92, died March 14, 2008.


The wake will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Mission, with Mass celebrated at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 6 a.m. Thursday in Ak-Chin Cemetery.

Ms. Lopez was born Oct. 3, 1915 in Oakum Kuk. She was a homemaker and at 90 still loved to sew and weave baskets. She was a well-known Tohono O'odham traditional singer. She was devoted to her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Susanna Murrietta of North Santa Rosa; five sons, Martin Carlos of Casa Grande, Simon Carlos of North Santa Rosa, Tommy Carlos of Santa Rosa, Louis Carlos of Oakum Kuk and Norbert Carlos of Casa Grande; a sister, Ena Lopez of Santa Rosa; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Carlos, and a granddaughter, Juanmea Carlos.
