Mary died on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. For the last 14 months she had been living with her son, Ron, and his wife in Tonopah, Arizona. She died peacefully at home amongst her family. Mary was born January 7, 1920 in Stonington, Illinois to Daniel R. and Catherine J. Doyle (Sullivan). Her parents were 100% Irish and she was nicknamed "Mickie." She attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse. For many years she was the only student in her grade. After graduation from high school, Mary attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She graduated in 1941; one of two women to earn an Accounting degree. She was very proud to be a "Fighting Illini."
In 1944 she married Ronald Edmund Andersen in Stonington, Illinois. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After World War II they moved to Davis, California so Ron could attend classes at the University of California at Davis. They moved back to the Midwest; living in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Texas. During this part of her life, she operated Andersen's Bookkeeping Service. In 1962 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona and in 1965 settled in Casa Grande, Arizona.
In 1965, Mary earned her certification as a Certified Public Accountant. She was a partner in Beimdiek, Raymond & Andersen, becoming Andersen & Andersen. The firm continues today as Andersen & Sarnowski. Her son, Daniel, is one of the principal owners.
Ron and Mary had four children: Judy Alvarez (Marty), Ronald E. Jr. (Delpha), Karen Smith (Ross) and Daniel Carl (Patty). They had 10 grandchildren: Martin, John, Ronnie, Leisha, Mica, Sarah, Chanda, Jason, Scott and Erica. They had 20 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, and her brother, Larry Doyle. She is survived by a sister, Patricia Sedlack, two cousins, Judi Hass and Dick Sullivan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of the Casa Grande chapter of Business and Professional Women. She was a founding member of a group of women that played bridge every Wednesday for over 40 years. She was a volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and was a docent with the Casa Grande Valley Historical Society.
Services will be handled by J. Warren Funeral Home. Viewing will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Rosary at 7:00 pm on Monday, July 2 at J. Warren's Garden Chapel, 525 North Peart Road, Casa Grande. Funeral Mass will be at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, July 3 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 301 East Second Street, Casa Grande. The burial will be immediately afterward at Mountain View Cemetery, 15506 Skyway Avenue, Casa Grande.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Banner Estrella Hospice, Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Casa Grande or Casa Grande Valley Historical Society.
