Mitchell Anthony Marrietta

WET CAMP VILLAGE - Mitchell Anthony Marrietta, 81, of Wet Camp died peacefully at home on March 13, 2017.

Mr. Marrietta was born on Dec. 22, 1935, in Olberg to Joseph and Josephine Marrietta. He was proud to have served as an Army paratrooper and of being honorably discharged. He returned to the Gila River Indian Community, where he was known as a hard worker with a kind heart.

He held many positions throughout his working career, from drill press operator to security guard to eventually retiring from farm work. He also owned Marrietta Custom Tillage. He was a member of the Catholic community and Gila River Matachina Dancers. He was devoted to his family and had a great love for them.

Survivors include five sons and daughters, Warren, Sherwin, Michelle, Alodie and Melodie Marrietta; four siblings, Phillip, Leander, Merle and Lavina Marrietta; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by some siblings.

Wake and rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 24, at the Marrietta home, off Field Road. Funeral Mass celebrated at 7 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Mission. Burial in Hashan Kehk Catholic Cemetery.
