ARIZONA CITY — Morton Richard "Mort" Erickson, 70, of Arizona City died on March 30, 2013, at home, with his family by his side.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel in Casa Grande and also beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Casa Grande Stake Center. The funeral will follow at 10, with Bishop Mark Dunne officiating. Burial will be in Valley of the Sun Memorial Park in Chandler.
Mr. Erickson, also called Butch, was born on Jan. 25, 1943, in Kewanee, Ill., to Morton A. and Helen Faye (Ensley) Erickson. He grew up there and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1961. He then served in the Air Force.
In 1976 he moved to Arizona City and worked at Lakeshore Mine until 1987. He later operated Erickson Electric until retiring in 2010. He was elected secretary-treasurer of the Arizona City Fire District in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. He was an assistant Boy Scout leader, firefighter and EMT for the Arizona City Fire District and a member and officer in Arizona City Moose Lodge. He worked on the Toltec Elementary School carnival for many years. He married Sharon Henry on Leap Day in 1988, saying he would have an anniversary only every four years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Brenda Erickson of Phoenix and Candy Larson of Apache Junction; a son, Morton Richard Erickson Jr. of Casa Grande; two brothers, Rick Erickson of Derby, Kan., and Terry Erickson of Beardstown, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Erickson.
