SANTAN - Naomi Howard, 79, of Sacaton died peacefully at home on Dec. 23, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Howard was born on June 29, 1938, in Blackwater to Jerald Juan and Rema Norris. She loved to read the newspaper while drinking her morning coffee. She was known as "Grandma" by almost everyone and enjoyed meeting new people.
She loved to watch "The Young and the Restless." When she wasn't spending time with her family or shopping, she was taking care of her outside plants and flowers or playing with and feeding her dogs. She was a longtime, dedicated custodial worker and spent years at Sunburst Resort in Scottsdale, then later worked for the Sacaton Elementary School District before retiring.
Survivors include three daughters and a son, Patricia Mendivil, Philbert Howard Jr., Jacqueline Juan and Melissa Howard, all of Upper Santan; a brother, Gordon Emerson; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philbert Howard Sr.; four brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the District 4 Service Center. Graveside service at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, in Santan Cemetery.
