ELOY — A memorial tribute for Norberto G. Castro, 92, of Eloy will begin at 9 a.m. today at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 by the Rev. Juan Carlos Aguirre. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
Mr. Castro was born June 6, 1917 in the old Pinal County mining town of Sasco and was a son of Margarita Gonzales and Trinidad Castro. He lived in Tucson during his youth. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for many years and spent most of his life in Eloy. He married Cecilia Ramirez in 1942 and together they raised eight children. He died Sept. 24, 2009 at home.
His favorite pastimes were playing with his grandchildren and watching the Diamondbacks and his lifelong favorite team, the Cleveland Indians. He was known for his love for his family, his sense of humor, strong character and youthful spirit exhibited daily, even to the point of dancing and playing with his grandchildren every chance he had. He had a gentle spirit. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed family get-togethers, especially his grandchildren’s parties.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Lou Hernandez and Cecilia Montijo of Casa Grande, Mary Ruiz and Socorro Chavez of Eloy; a son, Ernest Castro of Casa Grande; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, with a fifth expected. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sons, Frank, Eddie and Robert Castro; and a sister.
