Patricia Gay Barnes was born December 21, 1946 and joined the Lord on November 11, 2023. She was kind, strong, beautiful, and smart. No one remembers what you have done or said in life but how you’ve made them feel. Pat exemplified the true meaning of unconditional love. She always put everyone’s needs above her own, providing sound advice, love, a shoulder to cry on … or shelter if you were a grandkid who got kicked out and needed a place to stay until the dust blew over. In her company and when she held you, you knew that everything was going to be alright.
She had Martha Stewart beat when it comes to her Christmas decorating, sewing and cooking skills. She took the time to decorate for the holidays ... even making the present bows by hand to make them extra special. She had a love of sewing, hand stitching quilts that brought us warmth and comfort. She loved fishing and frying up the bounty to feed everyone. She ran the family harvesting business, flipped homes, managed property and still managed to make time for her family and friends. She took pride in helping her family succeed, seeing to it that the grandkids had a chance at a college education, starting their own businesses and careers. She is loved to the ends of the earth and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Donnie Joe Barnes; sons, Vernon Barnes, Christopher Barnes, Scott Wischhusen, John Cave and Terry Morgan; sisters, Martha Morell and Phillis Mooring; brother, Randy Matlock; sister-in-law, Emma Matlock; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ola Young, James Young and Vernon Matlock; brother, Vernon “Ray” Matlock; brothers-in-law, Douglas Mooring and Douglas Morell; niece, Patricia Myers; daughter, Phyllis Raynay Barnes; and grandson, Ryann Seth Barnes.
