How could you not love a man who all he wanted to do was BBQ for his family while sporting knee high socks and camouflage crocs?
Paul Martinez was born February 18, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank and Rosalie Martinez.
He passed away unexpectedly from medical complications on February 28, 2020 at the age of 65 in Casa Grande, Arizona. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by all his kids and loving wife.
He graduated from Spanish Fork High School, Utah in 1973 where he was a standout football athlete. Right out of high school he began his lifetime of service to his country in the United States Air Force and Army National Guard. His service continued when he was hired by the Immigration and Naturalization Service and then the U.S. Border Patrol.
Paul is survived by his beautiful wife of 36 years, Leesa Rasmussen Martinez. His children, James Paul Martinez, J. Craig Martinez (Shantelle), Damien Peel, Malissa Errazo (Beau), and Sarah Parsons (Matthew).
His grandchildren, Jessica, Gabi, Gentrie, Neisha (Alec), Jensen, SaVanna, Sebastian, Sophia, Damien, Malaya, EmmeLynn, and Sadie. One brother and six sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Rosalie Martinez, and five of his brothers.
Paul loved family BBQ’s where he believed anything and everything tasted better on the grill, even the occasional peacock. He enjoyed rock hunting, tracking, collecting law enforcement and military challenge coins and anything to do with the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially the 12 grand kids. He considered those he worked with in the Border Patrol as his second family and didn’t know how to "retire".
Paul was a mountain of a man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all he encountered. His stature was only matched by the love he had in his heart. He has left a very big impression on this earth for the short time we had him. We love you, will miss you and will always remember you! Until we meet again!
A service will be held to honor Paul on the 6th of March 2020, at 1:00pm. The service will be at the Vistoso Funeral Home located at, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Boulevard, Oro Valley, Arizona 85755. In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family has asked you to consider donating to the 100 Club at www.100club.org to support Arizona’s law enforcement.
