Pearl Amelia Boehm

CASA GRANDE - Pearl Amelia Boehm, 95, died on Jan. 23, 2019, in Casa Grande.

Mrs. Boehm was born on July 19, 1923, in St. Louis and was a daughter of Homer A. Smith and Seitha M. Masterson and a descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims. She graduated from Hancock High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis. She married Helmuth A. "Bud" Boehm on July 12, 1942, just prior to his induction into the Army. She moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, during World War II while her husband was an instructor at Camp Shelby and returned to St. Louis when he was deployed to the European Theater. She began her work career as a bookkeeper at Bonus Chocolate in St. Louis and eventually managed Peter Pepper Products, a contract office furnishings manufacturer in the Los Angeles area.

She moved to California in 1953, where she and her husband raised their children while supporting all their activities including Girl and Boy Scouts, Little League, PTA and American Field Service, an international student exchange program. She also was a member of the Business and Professional Women organization. In 1966 Narbonne High School recognized her with the PTA Lifetime Membership Award, which honors individuals for their contributions to the welfare of children and youth.

She moved to Casa Grande in 2002 following the death of her husband and was a member of Casa Grande Valley Historical Society (now The Museum of Casa Grande), where she received the Sunshine Garrett Award for her volunteer work with the docent program. A lifelong learner, she avidly completed several crossword puzzles each day and enjoyed studying birds, history and geography. She was a voracious reader and met regularly with the Lunch Bunch book club at the Main Library for many years. She and her husband loved travel and made many RV trips with grandchildren to places in the western United States.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Crow of Casa Grande; a son, Richard of Long Beach, California; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven.

Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
