Phyllis Patricia Wagoner, 86, a Casa Grande resident since 1960, died on April 2, 2011, in Casa Grande.
In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of life was held privately by the family.
Mrs. Wagoner was born on Sept. 16, 1924, to Walter and Beatrice (Crowell) Heisterkamp in Granger, Minn. After raising her family she returned to school at Arizona State University, where she finished bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine art. She was a teaching assistant in the Art Department at ASU for two years and then taught at Central Arizona College for 20 years before retiring. She was Arts Division chair for 11 years.
She was a member of the Casa Grande Arts and Humanities Commission, charter member of the Casa Grande Art Museum, charter member of the Pinal County Fine Arts Council and founding member and director of the College for Kids program at CAC for many years. She dearly loved her family and was an exceptional cook. She was represented by a major art gallery in Scottsdale.
Survivors include two sons, Michael and Steven; two sisters, Anita Matthews of Pittsford, N.Y., and Sandra Strohl of Westerville, Ohio; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. James Wagoner; a daughter, Wendy Wagoner; an infant son, James; a brother, Warren Heisterkamp; a sister, Barbara Saffron; and a great-grandson, Logan Chambers.
J. Warren Funeral Services, Mountain View Chapel was in charge of arrangements and burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
